The study of the ideological and strategic trends of the Tahrir al-Sham group is of great importance as a key prerequisite for predicting future developments in Syria and the Middle East. This research aims to analyze the developments of this Syrian jihadist group (which was formed from the split of Jabhat al-Nusra). The main focus of the research is the fundamental changes in the ideological identity of the group and its decision to distance itself from the Al-Qaeda organization and declare independence from it. Using an analytical-descriptive method and citing reliable library sources such as documents of jihadist groups and geopolitical articles, this research examines the effects of these developments on the internal cohesion of Tahrir al-Sham, its relations with other jihadist groups (especially ISIS), and regional and international consequences. The findings show that the fundamental changes in the ideological identity of Tahrir al-Sham were mainly due to internal and external pressures and the need to adapt to local conditions in Syria. These changes not only strengthened the group’s regional influence, but also caused internal divisions and created new challenges in international relations and regional conflicts. The importance of this research is evident in providing a more detailed analysis of Tahrir al-Sham’s position in the Syrian civil war and assessing the impact of its developments on Middle Eastern alliances and security threats.
