The late Arab neo-Mu'tazilites are rationalist thinkers with modern foundations who, in their opinion, have presented enlightening views in the field of religion and its issues, with the intention of eliminating decadence and backwardness, and the audience of religion is one of these issues. Since religion, outside the mind, does not have an independent and external existence and does not have a true unity, its audience is the recipient and implementer of religious knowledge, the status, quality, and scope of which depend on the foundations of anthropology. Therefore, in this article, the position and impact of neo-Mu'tazilite anthropology on the issue of the audience of religion was reviewed, which was done using a qualitative method and a descriptive-analytical approach. After examining the concept of religion and the foundations of neo-Mu'tazilite anthropology, the monopoly of the primary and direct audience of religion on the people of the era of revelation and the possibility of being addressed to humans after the compilation of the Quran in a conditional and restricted manner emerges as their point of view. The foundations of neo-Mu'tazilite anthropology under the following headings are examined: the mortality and materiality of man, rationality, rationality, free will, and the historicity of man, and the impact of each of these foundations on the scope of the audience of religion is clarified. The foundation of the historicity of man determines the scope of the primary audience. Also, the foundation of rationality reveals the scope of the second audience, and the foundation of the secularity of man reveals the scope of the third audience, which is subject to criticisms such as: leading to relativism and skepticism, a significant reduction in the audience of religion, the substitution of civil law for religious law, the contradiction between the absolute influence of the audience and the reforming role of religion, the inconsistency of the historicity of the audience of religion with the verses of the Quran, the exclusive reading of religious discourse, and the confusion between esoteric understanding and fluid understanding.
